Administrators' Image Pak Tips & FAQ
The Following is a Collection of Administrators' Image Pak User Tips & FAQ's:
Q: Why am I having difficulty batch importing images?
A: NCS/SASI III
Some issues have been noted when users running certain versions of Windows 95 and SASI III attempt to do a batch import of digital images from the Administrators' ImagePAK CD. Users experiencing difficulty are encouraged to verify that they have the correct Herff Jones Administrators' ImagePAK product. If you are certain you are using the correct CD and are still having difficulties, then contact SASI III technical support at (800) 622-7647.
Chancery/MacSchool
To import images into Chancery's MacSchool application, you must run the JPG2PIC utility found on the Herff Jones Administrators ImagePak CD. To locate this utility, look on the CD for a folder called Tools. Inside this folder is a folder called JPG2PIC. In the JPG2PIC folder is a utility called 'Convert.hqx'. This utility is in a bin/hex format for transferring over the Internet. It must be converted using a decompression program such as Aladdin Corporation's "Stuffit Expander 5.5". This application is freeware and can be found on the Aladdin web page at : http://www.aladdinsys.com/expander/index.html
To decompress the JPG2PIC.hqx file:
1. Launch Stuffit Expander.
2. Go to the menu and select File/Expand.
3. In the dialog box click the Desktop button.
4. In the window to the left, double click the Herff_Jones icon.
5. Double click the Tools folder.
6. Double click the JPG2PIC folder.
7. Double click the JPG2PIC.hqx file.
8. A new dialog box will appear that asks where you want to place the decompressed executable file. Please note where you place the converted files.
9. Stuffit Expander will then create a folder called 'JPG2PIC'.
10. Inside the folder will be the JPG2PIC icon and the Readme.Txt file.
To use the JPG2PIC utility:
1. Locate the JPG2PIC executable icon and launch it.
2. A dialog window will appear that asks where you want to place the required files for importing images into MacSchool. Specify the desired destination directory.
3. Press the button labeled Choose.
4. The JPG2PIC utility will proceed to create 2 folders in the destination directory. One is called DATAMAC, and the other one is called PCTFILEC. These 2 folders are needed for the import process in MacSchool.
5. When the conversion process is complete, contact MacSchool technical support and tell them where the DATAMAC and PCTFILEC folder are located. They will then tell you how to import the images into MacSchool.
Q: How can I tell which picture goes with which student?
A: There are a number of cross reference files on the Herff Jones Administrators Resource CD. An example is the Student.TXT file, which contains the students image filename (without an extension), ID number, last name, first name, and teacher name (if it was provided to the photographer) in a comma delimited ASCII file. There are other text files, such as PREF_JPG.TXT that contain just two fields. The first is the students ID number, if it was provided to the photographer, and the second field is the corresponding JPEG image file. Naturally, the best way to view the images and data is to use the Image Pak program, which puts the images and data in a user friendly format for maximum use and enjoyment.
Q: We would like to use the pictures in other programs besides Image Pak. Can we do that?
A: The images on the Herff Jones Administrators Resource CD are compatible with numerous third party applications and the list continues to grow! For information on your particular application, contact your local Herff Jones representative.
