The Iola diploma manufacturing facility opened for business in 1972. Since that time, flexibility has been the word to describe its role with the company.
In the early years, only cover making and final printing operations were performed in Iola. But between 1974 and 1980, the plant also handled yearbook cover operations. The product line in Iola continued to evolve, and from 1980 through 1986 the plant assumed the production of diploma stock, miniatures, announcements, and accessories. The Customer Service department was also moved to Iola during this time.
Then in 1987, the announcement volume was moved to the Indianapolis and Scranton announcement plants, and the Florida diploma and diploma cover volume was moved to Iola. In 1989, the diploma business was re-aligned between the diploma plants, giving the Iola plant the southern and midwestern states. A year later, about one-third of the western states' volume was moved to Iola, too. The following year, the remaining western states' volume, along with additional equipment, was moved there, as well.
Currently, the Iola plant has 60,000 square feet of space, employs 120 people during peak times, and produces in excess of 1,500,000 diplomas and 1,000,000 covers each year. Turn-around time for individual orders averages just a few weeks for the more the schools and universities serviced by the plant.
